Kampala Queens FC Assistant Coach Sharon Kizza has expressed confidence and optimism ahead of the club’s opening fixture of the 2025/26 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League.
Speaking during the official pre-season press conference held on Wednesday morning at the Finance Trust Bank Head Office in Kampala, Kizza shared her thoughts on the campaign ahead, the team’s preparations, and the challenge of beginning the title defense against Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC this Friday evening at 4 pm.
Here is our round-up from her media briefing:
On the team’s plan for the new season…
Kizza stressed that the reigning champions are approaching the new campaign with a clear target and mindset of competitiveness.
“We are ready to compete. One of our targets is ending the season as champions and actually that is what we are going to focus on as a team.”
On defending the title…
She highlighted the unique challenge of defending the FUFA Women Super League crown, something no team has achieved before. She was, however, quick to affirm that the squad is motivated to make history.
“Like you said, there hasn’t been a team that has won the title back to back, I will say that we are well set for the task ahead, to compete and be the first team to defend the title. All our focus is there.”
On players’ readiness for the new season…
Asked about the state of the squad, Kizza was upbeat about the energy and commitment being shown in camp.
“All the players in camp are doing great, ready to give in their all in the upcoming season.”
The pre-season period has seen the Queens work intensively also considering their participation in the recently concluded CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers.
On key players who were released at the end of last season…
While Kampala Queens bid farewell to some of their standout performers from last campaign, Kizza reassured that the team has made adequate reinforcements reflecting the club’s philosophy of continuity and sustainability, ensuring that transitions do not derail their competitive edge.
“Yes, they were key players, they were very good players but to us we know that players come and go. We have perfect replacements for the players that left who we believe will compete very well and also elevate the club to higher levels.”
On opening up the season against Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC…
The Queens will have a worthy opening test against Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC, Kizza acknowledged the strength of the opponent but emphasized her side’s readiness.
“Kawempe is a good team, we respect them, they have good players but what I know we are ready to compete and attain maximum points.”
