After Action: Kawempe Muslim FC 1–1 Kampala Queens FC

MD1 – Friday, October 3, 2025 – Kawempe Muslim Ground

Kampala Queens FC kicked off the 2025/26 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League campaign with a spirited 1–1 draw away to Kawempe Muslim Ladies on Friday afternoon. In a game filled with energy and fighting spirit, the reigning champions came from behind to secure an important point at one of the league’s toughest venues.

In the season opener, Sharon Kaidu, Catherine Wujja and Joanitah Ainembabazi were haded their full league debuts having featured so far in the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers recently concluded in Kenya. Also Teddy Najjuma returned to the starting eleven after a while.

Action sparked and match temperatures raised as fast, Queens sent in questions to the host, Kamiyati and Nagadya owned the wings but a clinical finish was only the burden.

The Valley crowd created a vibrant atmosphere, urging their home side forward from the start. Hosts found the opener four minutes before the break when Asia Nakibuuka rose highest to head home, giving them a 1–0 lead at half-time.

But the Queens regrouped during the interval. Fresh legs were introduced in the 53rd minute – defense general Jolly Kobusinge and flair queen Peace Muduwa rejuvenated the backline and forward wing respectively. It was a change that was needed for the game’s momentum shift. Later the Queens looked sharper in attack, and their persistence was rewarded in the 58th minute when Kamiyati Naigaga pounced from close range to score the equaliser, a goal that sparked wild celebrations, made even more special by the sight of Kamiyati’s family in the stands, proudly cheering her on.

Pressure from both sides never ceased, the Queens continued to create chances through Zainah Namaganda, Peace Muduwa, and Shamusa Najjuma, but those opportunities went begging. At the back, Sharon Kaidu with a strong performance, pulling off key saves to ensure that the team is left with a valuable point.

Assistant Coach Sharon Kizza hailed the resilience of her players after the final whistle:

It’s a draw away from home, and that’s a positive for us. We believe this is a good starting point.

Club captain Shakirah Nankwanga reflected on the match with optimism:

I want to thank my teammates for working very hard, the game wasn’t easy. First games are always hard.”
