A chilly Saturday morning at Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku saw Kampala Queens FC secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory over St Noa GFC on their home turf. Despite the cold and a tough opponent, the Queens showed composure, discipline, and determination to claim all three points away from home.
The game began with both sides eager to take control but St Noa GFC created several early chances, putting pressure on the Queens’ defence. However, Kampala Queens remained organized at the back, denying the hosts any clear scoring opportunities. The midfield battle was intense, with both teams fighting for possession and control of the game’s tempo.
The breakthrough came in the 36th minute. A precise pass from Namusoke Esther on the right wing found Joanitah inside the penalty area. Joanitah’s initially found a shot but the ball landed perfectly for Catherine Nagadya, who calmly tapped it past the St Noa goalkeeper with her left foot to give the Queens the lead.
In a heartfelt moment, Catherine chose not to celebrate her goal, paying respect to her former school, St Noa Girls School, where she completed her A-Level studies. This strike marked her third goal of the season, reinforcing her growing reputation as a clutch performer.
Following the goal, St Noa intensified their attack, looking for an equalizer. But goalkeeper Namakula Gloria, affectionately known as Zaza, stood tall, making crucial saves and ensuring the Queens’ slim lead held until the final whistle. This performance earned her a second clean sheet in two games this season.
After the match, the assistant coach lauded the team’s resilience and composure.
“We applaud our ladies. They’ve done a great job, showing character and experience by converting that crucial chance to win the match.”
She also commended Zaza’s performance under pressure:
“We started the game at a low tempo, and the opponents created more chances early on. Thankfully, our goalkeeper kept us in the game.”
Zaza, meanwhile, emphasized teamwork and focus on the upcoming fixtures:
“It was not an easy game, but we’ve won. Now, we focus on the next match. We will handle it step by step and continue performing together as a team.”
The win lifts Kampala Queens FC to second place on the FUFA Women Super League table, just two points behind the league leaders. With confidence high, the Queens now turn their attention to their next clash against Uganda Martyrs High School WFC on Sunday, 16th November, at MTN Omondi Stadium Lugogo.
