Kampala Queens FC suffered their first defeat of the 2025/26 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League season after a challenging 2–0 loss away to She Maroons FC in Luzira. The result ends a long unbeaten run that stretched back to the closing stages of last season.
The opening half was tightly contested, with both sides struggling to create clear scoring opportunities. Kampala Queens FC enjoyed spells of possession but could not break down the well-organised She Maroons defense, while the hosts also offered little threat in attack. The teams headed into the break level at 0–0.
The second half, however, turned in favour of the hosts.
She Maroons FC came out with renewed energy, pressing aggressively and taking command of midfield. Queens goalkeeper Namakula Gloria produced several vital saves, but the breakthrough came in the 51st minute. A ball from deep in the She Maroons half was misjudged by the Kampala Queens backline, allowing Doreen Nakayiwa to race through, enter the box, and slot home the opener.
As the Queens pushed forward in pursuit of an equaliser, She Maroons struck again. A defensive challenge inside the box resulted in a penalty, calmly converted by Lillian Kasuubo in the 60th minute to double the lead.
The hosts played with added emotion and determination following the passing of their performance analyst and former player Faustin Nalugwa on 21 November. A moment of silence was observed before kickoff in her honour.
After the match, Assistant Coach Sharon Kizza reflected on the performance and the road ahead:
“Yes, the first loss of the season. It was a tough game, and Maroons gave everything to win it. Our players also tried their best because many of them are carrying injuries. In football, you expect such days, but we shall keep working hard and keep our heads above the water.”
She continued:
“It has been a long time since we lost a match. This is only one game—nothing more. We have won so many before, and we remain focused and determined. The players must stay positive as we prepare for the next fixtures.”
Kampala Queens FC will now shift focus to their next assignment in the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League set to host She-Corporate FC on Sunday, 30th November 2025, at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
