After Action: Olila High School WFC 0–1 Kampala Queens FC

The Queens of Soccer returned from Soroti with a crucial three points after edging Olila High School WFC 1–0 in a tightly contested encounter on Saturday morning.

From the moment the team arrived at the Soroti ground, the intent was clear. The calm weather conditions played their part as well. Unlike the intense heat experienced during the previous visit, the morning offered a more favorable atmosphere — bright sunshine softened by the coolness left behind by overnight drizzles. It was exactly the kind of conditions Assistant Coach Sharon Kizza had anticipated in her pre-match analysis.

There was only one change to the starting lineup from the previous match. Goalkeeper Sharon Kaidu was handed the start ahead of Gloria Namakula in a tactical adjustment that ultimately paid off. Kaidu’s presence between the posts helped the Queens record a clean sheet — the team’s second consecutive shutout achieved by two different goalkeepers in a row. On the substitutes bench, youngster Kimono also earned a place in the matchday squad.

Kickoff began exactly on time and the visitors immediately took control of the game. Kampala Queens FC players circulated the ball confidently across the uneven playing surface, mixing sharp ground passes with accurate lofted balls as they looked to stretch the hosts’ defense.

Within minutes, forward Ainembabazi Joanitah threatened the Olila defense with a promising effort that narrowly drifted wide of the target. The Queens continued to press relentlessly, creating several opportunities but struggling to convert them. However, persistence finally paid off midway through the half.

The decisive moment came 31 minutes into play from a well-worked attacking move down the right flank. A throw-in by Catherine Wujja fell to Peace Muduwa who delivered a dangerous ball into the penalty area where Catherine Nagadya laid it off for Namaganda. With composure, Namaganda evaded her marker before calmly sending the ball into the back of the net to give the Queens a deserved lead. Kampala Queens carried that advantage into halftime.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with the Queens maintaining their intensity and control of the game. Despite creating several promising attacking situations, the finishing touch proved elusive, leaving the scoreline unchanged.

Nonetheless, the disciplined defensive display ensured the hosts never found a way back into the game.

In the second half, Four substitutes were made: At sixty five, Joanitah Ainembabazi was replaced by Naigaga Kamiyati. Seven minutes later, Loyce paved way for Shamusa. The final was a double substitution that saw Nagadya and Wujja being replaced by Namusoke and Jamilah respectively.

For her exceptional performance, Peace Muduwa was named Woman of the Match. Her influence from the right side created numerous chances, including the decisive assist for the winning goal.

By the end of the match, her jersey number eleven had become the most sought-after among fans, eager to celebrate the standout performer.

Assistant Coach Sharon Kizza praised the team’s overall display but admitted there is still room for improvement in front of goal.

“I want to congratulate the entire team for the good performance today. We managed to collect the three points, which is what we wished for as a team. Too many chances were created but were not converted,” she said after the match.

With the victory, Kampala Queens FC move to 28 points, maintain third position on the table. The Queens will now turn focus to their next fixture against St Noa Girls FC scheduled for Saturday 14th March at MTN Omondi Stadium.
