Kampala Queens FC second Assistant Coach Shafic Mutebi shared his thoughts in a pre-match interview ahead of the team’s trip to face Uganda Martyrs HS WFC at St. Gerard Grounds this Saturday in the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League Matchday 16—returning to a place that holds personal memories in his coaching journey.
Mutebi, who previously coached Uganda Martyrs HS WFC as assistant coach, approaches the fixture with both familiarity and focus, but insists sentiment will take a back seat once the game begins.
Reflecting on last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to St Noa GFC at Lugogo, the assistant coach pointed to missed opportunities as the major difference.

“It was a really disappointing result at home. We had phases where we played well, created chances, but failed to convert them. That has been our issue. We scored eight against
Asubo but missing so many chances again against the next opponent”
Despite earlier attacking success in previous matches, Mutebi admitted the team must find consistency in front of goal if they are to maintain their title charge. With the Uganda Martyrs test next, the message from the technical bench is clear—bounce back immediately.
“It is in our plan to go to St. Gerard Grounds and make sure we collect the three points on Saturday.”

Asked about the team’s tittle race, Mutebi emphasized that while the title race remains open, the team’s approach will be grounded in controlling their own outcomes.
“Of course, there is still an opportunity for us to defend the championship. We have seven games left—that’s 21 points to fight for.”
“What we can control is each match we play. We must win. Other results are not in our hands.”
Having previously worked with Uganda Martyrs HS WFC, Mutebi knows exactly the kind of challenge that awaits his side on Lubaga Hill. Historically, fixtures at St. Gerard Grounds have been closely contested, often decided by narrow margins.

“It is going to be a hard one as it has always been. The games have always been tight—1-0, 0-0, 2-2. it has not always been easy going to Saint-Gerard grounds to pick points..”
But still, he remains optimistic that this encounter can produce a different outcome.
“Hopefully, maybe I could be the difference this time around to see that we can comfortably collect the three points against them.”
Kampala Queens currently sit six points ahead of Uganda Martyrs HS WFC, adding extra weight to Saturday’s contest. Mutebi acknowledged the importance of avoiding any slip.
“..if we don’t win against Uganda Martyrs, we know how hard the season could turn out to be because we are only six points above them. So losing against them on Saturday will put us in a difficult situation at the Moment.”
“This is Kampala Queens—expectations are always high.” He said.
“Our efforts this week have been about how we go there, win, and come back home with smiles on our faces.”
