Kampala Queens FC Head Coach Asefa Firew Hailegebreal believes his side is growing stronger with each match after completing October unbeaten — winning twice and drawing twice in the four Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League fixtures.
In an exclusive sit-down with Kampala Queens FC Media, the Ethiopian tactician reflected on the month’s performances, breaking down each game while highlighting areas of progress and improvement as the team gears up for November fixtures.
Game-by-Game Review
Looking back at the month’s opener against Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC, Asefa described it as a hard-fought and balanced contest.
“The Kawempe Muslim game was a very good competition and required a lot of focus,” he explained. “The players were still tired after returning from the CECAFA tournament in Kenya, and that affected us a little as a team. But despite that, the girls did a great job and managed to earn an important point away from home.”

The next one against Makerere University WFC at home tested the team’s resilience.
“That match exposed some mistakes, especially in the final third,” Asefa admitted. “But we played as a team until the end and kept believing. Our efforts were rewarded when Kamiyati scored the winning goal in extra time.”
Kampala Queens then produced one of their finest displays of the season in a dominant victory over Rines SS WFC, a performance that pleased the coach in all aspects.
“The Rines game was very impressive,” he said. “My players were good both individually and collectively. Their movement, understanding, and creativity were excellent. The big goal margin reflected how well we executed our plan.”
However, Asefa was less satisfied with the final game of the month, a 2-2 draw away to Asubo Ladies FC, noting that the team could have managed the game better.
“We didn’t control the game well,” he said candidly. “Our attack and defense both lacked sharpness. We started strong but lost concentration along the way. It’s one of those matches that show us where we still need to adjust.”

Reflections on October’s Overall Performance
Despite a few hiccups, the head coach expressed delight with the team’s overall display across the four games.
“Overall, I’m very pleased with the team’s performance in October,” he noted. “We showed great character, discipline, and resilience in every match.”
On Team Spirit and Growing Chemistry
Asefa pointed to collective unity as the standout positive from the month, crediting both new signings and returning players for their contribution to the team’s cohesion.
“Our biggest strength has been our togetherness,” he emphasized. “Every player understands her role and the team’s purpose. The new players have blended in very well, bringing energy and competition, while the returning players provide leadership and stability. You can see the connection growing stronger with every game.”
Standout Contributions Across the Squad
When asked who impressed him most during the month, Asefa opted to praise the team as a whole.
“It’s hard to single out one player, several made key contributions at different moments. Our midfielders did a great job controlling the tempo, the defenders stayed composed under pressure, and the forwards kept pushing to create chances even when goals were hard to come by. It was a real team effort — and that’s exactly what we want.”

Areas for Improvement
Even with an unbeaten record, Asefa believes there is room for refinement.
“We need to be more clinical in front of goal,” he said. “We’re creating enough chances, but we must convert them better. Also, our game management in the closing stages needs improvement — turning draws into wins will make a big difference.”
Asefa’s Focus for November
Looking ahead, the coach said the main objective is to maintain momentum and continue sharpening performance in both phases of play.
“Our focus now is to build on the unbeaten run while going for maximum points,” he explained. “We’re emphasizing sharper decision-making in the attacking third, improved concentration throughout the 90 minutes, and stronger team cohesion.”
Message to the Fans
Coach Asefa concluded with heartfelt gratitude to the Kampala Queens FC supporters who continue to rally behind the team.
“I want to sincerely thank our fans for their incredible support,” he said. “Their energy means a lot to the players and to us as the technical team. We promise to keep giving our best, play exciting football, and make them proud. We’re only getting started — the best is yet to come.”
