Kamiyati Naigaga: Scored Season’s First, Ready to Light Up the Season Again

As Kampala Queens FC prepare for their first home fixture of the 2025/26 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League tomorrow morning, one name already shining brightly in the early stages of the campaign is Kamiyati Naigaga — the lively forward who opened her goal account last weekend in Kawempe.

Her crucial strike against Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC earned the defending champions a hard-fought point away from home and also marked a confident start to her new season — one she hopes will be even better than the last.

Kamiyati, who joined Kampala Queens FC in September 2024, has grown to become a key attacking figure for the club. Known for her pace, composure in the final third and relentless work rate, the 20-year-old enjoyed a strong campaign last season, writing a goal and 4 assists that powered the team to yet another league title. Her consistency and ability to rise in big moments made her a fan favourite and one of the players to watch heading into this new season.

The club media caught up with her ahead of the Queens’ first home outing against Makerere University Women FC, and here is what she had to share:

On being the scorer of the team’s first goal of the season:
“First, I thank the Almighty God because it was not by my own power or wisdom, but His. I also thank my coach for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to feature in that game. To my teammates, I’m truly grateful for the teamwork — that goal came as a result of our combined effort.”

On her targets for the new season:
“I’m more than ready to compete and deliver strong performances — scoring goals and assisting my teammates to score, just like I did last season. That’s my key role and I intend to keep doing ‘my usual thing.’ I want to improve on my numbers from last season because I believe there’s always room for growth.”

On her insight into the next opponent — Makerere University Women FC:
“Those ladies are very aggressive and will come ready to fight for three points. But for us, we equally need the win and are fully prepared. The good thing is, they are coming to our home — and we hope to host them well. We respect them, but we are confident and focused on getting the job done.”

On the pressure of defending the league title:
“We won last season and represented Uganda in the CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers, but things didn’t go as we wished. This time, we want to fight even harder, win the trophy again, and earn another chance to represent Uganda at the regional level — with the aim of performing better. We’ve learned a lot from last year’s experience, and we’re coming back stronger and more united.”

Message to her fans:
“My lovely fans, I truly appreciate your love and support. Please continue to stand by me and keep pushing me, even when I feel stuck. I promise I won’t let you down — I’ll keep the fire burning to make you proud and surpass your expectations.”
