Every journey has its season, and for Precious Phiri and Square Maiwase, that season at Kampala Queens FC has now gracefully reached its conclusion.
The Queens of Soccer have officially parted ways with the two Zambian internationals following the completion of their agreed short-term spell at the club. With their assignment fulfilled, the duo will now return to Zambia, where their mother club – Luyando Foundation awaits their services as they continue writing their football stories.
Phiri and Maiwase arrived at the palace in August 2025, at a time when Kampala Queens FC was sharpening its tools for continental duty ahead of the CAF Women’s Champions League – CECAFA Qualifiers in Kenya. Their arrival injected international pedigree, competitive depth and fresh energy into the squad during a demanding phase of the season.

Midfielder Precious Phiri quickly established herself as a reliable presence within the team setup, earning selection in every matchday squad during her stay. She went on to feature in seven matches, making her competitive debut in the continental arena when she came off the bench against Denden FC in the group stages of the CECAFA Qualifiers. Calm on the ball and tactically disciplined, Phiri offered balance and structure in midfield whenever called upon.

In attack, Square Maiwase provided a different edge. The forward featured in three matches, making two appearances from the bench before earning a start in the starting XI. Her direct approach and attacking movement added variety to the Queens’ offensive options during her time at the club.

A shared milestone came on home soil when both players made their full domestic debuts in the 2–1 victory over Makerere University WFC at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo in the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League.

Confirming the development, Club CEO Meddy Sengendo explained that the conclusion of the duo’s stay was in line with the initial agreement and as they return home to continue making waves, the doors of the palace remain open.
“Our two Zambian internationals will not be with us for the second round because their time with us has come to an end, and their club back home requires their services. We thank them for their commitment and exceptional service during their stay at the palace and wish them the very best back home.,” Sengendo stated.
Kampala Queens FC extends heartfelt appreciation to Precious Phiri and Square Maiwase for their professionalism, dedication and contribution during their time in turquoise blue. Though their stay was brief, their chapter remains part of the club’s growing story.
Once a Queen, always a Queen.
