Kampala Queens FC will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday 7th September, as they take on Eritrea’s Denden FC in their second and last group stage match of the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers. The game will kick off at 3:00 PM at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.
This match is very important for both teams but for the Queens are looking to secure qualification to the knockout stage.
The Queens of Soccer opened their campaign earlier this week falling 1-0 to Kenya Police Bullets FC in a tough and competitive game which also gave the Ugandan champions the other feel of the tournament atmosphere. The team has used the last training sessions to correct mistakes, improve ball movement, and sharpen finishing.
Head Coach Firew Hailegebreal has encouraged the players to stay calm and focused, reminding them that this is a chance to represent Uganda with pride.
“We’ve settled down our players and asked them to focus on the task at hand.” The assistant coach Sharon Kizza re-echoed to Kampala Queens FC Media.
“Once we get a positive result from this match, we shall forget each and everything that happened in the first match.” She continued
Captain Shakirah Nankwanga has also rallied the team, saying that every minute on the pitch is an opportunity to show that Kampala Queens belong among Africa’s best.
“The players are fully focused on the the next game. We want to win the game but also score as much goals as possible to keep our semifinal final dream alive.”
The Queens are aware that Denden may be unpredictable, but that also makes them dangerous. They are likely to play with a lot of spirit, knowing that every result matters.
“Denden is champion of their league and so going into tomorrow’s game, we shall not underestimate them but rather come with character and fight to score many goals.” Coach Sharon.
The team also knows they are carrying the flag of Uganda, and many fans back home will be watching and cheering for them.
